Chinese immigrants increasing to other countries
China has for the first time surpassed New Zealand and Britain as Australia’s biggest source of migrants as both centuries try to ease diplomatic tensions over Chinese investment in Australia and separatist rights, a pole showed yesterday, A record 6,350 migrants arrived in Australia from mainland China over four months to October, surpassing the 5,800 who arrived from Britain and 4,740 from neighbouring New Zealand, government figures showed. But Australia’s Mandarin-speaking Prime Minister Kevin Rudd met China’s Premier Wen Jiabao on the side line of an Asia summit in October to work through differences, while Vice Premier Li Keqiang later met Rudd in Sydney in a further thawing. A survey this month showed Rudd’s diplomatic efforts Were paying off, with a majority of Chinese accepting Australia’s place in Asia and acknowledging the country had a vital role to play in the region. In what was believed to the first public survey of Chinese attitudes on Australia, the Lowy Institute poll showed almost half the 1,200 people surveyed believed Australians were generally suspicious China’s rising places in the world. On inbound investment, Chinese were more favorable to foreign investment from singapore, Canada and Australia then they were to investment from the United States or Japan. A majority (56 %) were in favour of companies controlled by the Singaporean government trying to buy a controlling stake in a major Chinese company, the Lowy Poll said. “ Sizeable minorities were also in favor of this sort of investment by Canada(45%) and Australia(41%). However large majorities of 70% and 79% respectively were against investment from the United States and Japan
