Switch On: Activate God’s Power

Are you superhuman? Are you living life on your own strength? Or are you dependent on the Holy Spirit to “deliver” you from the power of sin over your life? If you want to experience God’s power in your life, then here’s exactly what you need to know to switch on and activate the power of God in your life.

1. You need to be positionally correct. You must become a child of God. You cannot switch on the power of God if you are not a child of God. The same way with a child who gets to enjoy all the privileges of being a child of his father. All the father’s favor is on him because he is his own. Psalm 1:1-3 says, “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers”. Who in his right mind would wait ten hours for a passenger bus to pass in the middle of a farm off the road? Nobody in his right mind of course! We need to go near the road and wait there.

2. You need to put your life in order. There is reason why Jesus taught us to pray this prayer everyday, “But deliver us from the evil one”. It’s because He wanted to teach us the value of “abiding” in Christ. We should always be dependent on the Holy Spirit who dwells within us since the moment we made Jesus our Savior and Lord. Don’t forget that even the most spiritual Christians are cautioned to pray this prayer because everyone is vulnerable to temptation and sin. Therefore, let us not be “superman”. Let us humble ourselves and ask the Father to “deliver us from evil”. Let us be willing to take practical steps in putting our life in order that is pleasing in the eyes of God.

How do you know if you’re saved? How do you know that you are really a child of God? Pointing to a confirmation certificate won’t do or knowing the date you were baptized won’t do it either. If we want to be sure and if we want to be certain that our names are written in the Book of Life, then we should look to our lives to make certain we possess in increasing measure faith, goodness, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love. A changed life is the best evidence that we are heading for heaven and that we really are a child of God. Let us make every effort to add to our faith all the godly qualities that reflect the life of Jesus here on earth. As we grow, we will have a deepened assurance that we are safe and secure in the family of God.

I encourage you now to pray this prayer, “Almighty God, I acknowledge that I am a sinner, and that I need you to forgive my sins. I acknowledge what you have done on the cross of Calvary and am forever grateful for your love and your special gift of salvation. Please come into my heart, and be my Savior and Lord. I humble myself before You and present all the areas of my life that need to be made right. I’m grateful that You desire to do something so powerful and personal in my life as to make me spotless and stainless – and thank you for shedding your blood on the cross, Your blood that washes me white as snow.
