Using The Learning Theories To Improvise Education Techniques

The education teaching methods that are implemented in colleges should always be in accordance with the learning theories. There are many learning theories which have been developed since 1920’s and many famous theories help us understand the not-so-simple process of learning.

Basically, learning in relation to learning theories refers to the process that brings together emotional and environmental influences and experiences for enhancing or making changes in one’s skills or knowledge in the concerned topic. Hence, it is clear that the educational learning theory is fully intact with the learning theory.

There are many learning theories which have been brought forward by thinkers in relation to education and learning. There are many old learning theories such as: Behaviorism, Cognitivism and Constructivism. But now that newer theories are being applied, the previous ones are almost obsolete.

The newer learning theories are more clearer as compared to the older ones and they are more concerned with breaking down the learning process into seperate processes making the process as a whole, more easy to understand and providing more room for improvement in between and filling in where necessary.

The most famous post-modern learning theories include the conceptual theories and the connectivism theory. Conceptual theory refers to the building of the concept as a whole of the full topic rather than putting it in a cumulative; building upon itself, approach. After the concept of the whole topic has been conveyed, then it can be broken up and additional information should be covered about each individual aspect of importance.

The connectivism theory refers to making connection between the individual topics on a subject and then providing an overall link between the topics before starting the teaching process. This helps students to better relate, compare and evaluate the topic. If better placement of the areas most needing this theory is done, for example in a subject like commerce, just imagine how much more simple the whole learning process would become.

Now that was for the educational learning theory, but the question is: How can the learning theory be used to improvise the curriculums? Well, the answer to the question is by making comparisons regarding what is related and what is not. On a general basis, theories such as connectivism and developing overall concept are already into practice by some form. However, as new theories are developed, it becomes the job of the national education board or the individual schools’ administration to make changes in the curriculum in accordance with the learning theory best suitable.

If the learning theories are better looked upon it can greatly help improve the educational methods to make the learning process more efficient, which is an aim of all educational boards. Hence, this improvement in education with time will provide a base for future thinkers and innovators.
